Playoffs, we’re talking about playoffs! In the first round of the playoffs, Those Guys drew Anthony’s/The Crowd. Those Guys have been a hodge podge of players all year and that remained the same last night. Thanks to Ron Bills for coming in and pitching and all of the other sub players we have used throughout the season. Ben Duggan got the game started with a single and Bill Skowronski and Cam Jablonski also added hits in the first inning, putting Those Guys up 1-0. Anthony’s didn’t hesitate taking a 7-1 lead after their at bats in the first inning. Those Guys were led by Cam Jablonski after adding 3 hits of his own on the night. Scott Jablonski flashed the leather at first base, doubling up the runner on a line shot. The game almost went the distance, until Anthony’s added the final run to end the game 15-5 in 6 innings. While it sucks to lose, I am proud of this team for sticking it out this year continuing to show up week after week, fully knowing that we will probably get our heads kicked in. It’s not about getting knocked down, it’s how we pick ourselves back up. Based on the playoff seeding Those Guys will be playing the final game of the season next Monday at 6:30. Stay tuned for the final schedule.

Boetto and Boetto vs. Those Guys Recap
On yet another cold and windy night in May…Those Guys were outmatched yet again, in the first inning. Boetto and Boetto struck first dropping 24 runs on Those Guys almost before recording one out. Hitting their home-run limit in the first inning Boetto and Boetto took their foot off the gas and allowed Mike Hafner to get the scoring started with a solo home-run. David Januszewski went 2-2 with a double and a home-run. Audomaro Farias, Bryan Kouba and substitute player Mike “Topper” Topps all added a hit as well. The real action began when the game ended in the 3rd inning when Those Guys cut loose and took some BP on the field. Mike Hoyt looked like a man possessed in the outfield tracking down balls while holding tightly to his beer. He even put one over the fence for an emotional win. Bill Skowronski thinks that next year we play softball while holding a beer the entire time, hey anything at this point would be more fun! We have Memorial Day off so enjoy it with your families! Our next game is June 6th at 8:30 pm

Moe Joes vs. Those Guys recap
The end of the year did not go as planned for Those Guys, taking a loss in the final game to their favorite team, Moe Joes. While the loss hurt and the record does not reflect a good season for Those Guys, the team still managed to have a good time and we all know now that Mike Hoyt sucks at softball (sorry Mike I had to do it!)!!! Moe Joes never went crazy in the game scoring runs, they just kept their foot on the gas enough to keep Those Guys from winning. Filling in for a myriad of players that could not make it was Brett Blaser who came through with 3 RBI’s, a double and a triple. Jeff Wynne also stepped in and did a great job on the base path in relief for Thomas Scott, who on one good leg managed to hit 3 doubles!!! Jason Novak also had a good final game collecting 3 hits one of which was a triple! The defense played well behind the arm of Dicky Barnes, unfortunately Moe Joes just kept putting the ball in play. In the end Those Guys lost 14-9 to end the year 3-9. Next year will hopefully be better and I know I look forward to next summer! Have a great fall and I look forward to seeing all of you then (if not before).
Softballs, Hard Bats vs. Those Guys recap
Every now and then, Those Guys put together a game that just stuns the whole team, against Softballs, Hard Bats, that is exactly what happened. Those Guys started the game scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning and 7 runs in the second inning to jump out to a 11-5 lead. Thomas Scott led the team in walks adding 3 on the night (good news for him since his groin started getting more aggravated as the night went on). Jason Novak led the charge with 5 base hits and 6 RBI’s on the night. Ben Knight added 5 hits of his own and 3 RBI’s. Todd Runkle collected three hits and 6 RBI’s as well! Those Guys seemed to be on cruise control, until Softballs, Hard Bats came back to tie it up 18-18. Those Guys responded in the 7th inning tacking on 11 runs on 12 hits to seal the game 30-19. Lenny Smith was like lightning on the base path, opting to run for himself (since Tom was hurt and we needed the runner for him) and scoring on his own in the 7th inning. Donnie, Dicky, Bryan and Pat Doyle all added 4 hits of their own on the night. Let’s hope this kind of offensive and defensive performance can be replicated next week against Miles Construction at 7:30.
Those Guys vs. Father Tom & Altar Boys Recap
It was a steamer in Joliet Monday night! Those Guys did not have the bats working like they had in previous weeks, losing a close one to Father Tom & Altar Boys 8-7. Thomas Scott was a dripping mess from the beginning, but he added 4 hits on the night, two of which were triples! Those Guys started out with 4 runs in the first and Dicky Barnes seemed to be on cruise control on the mound, giving up 0 runs over three innings. Bryan Kouba and Bill Moxley led the team in RBI’s for the evening, tallying two a piece. Donnie Markus, Ben Knight and Todd Runkle added an RBI each. FT&AB proved too much in the later innings as they added 6 runs in the 5th inning and eventually pulled away with the win. The defense was solid for the first few innings, but as they seem to always happen, the error bug started biting, allowing FT&AB to get the lead. Those Guys only put together 17 hits as a team marking one of their lowest hit totals of the season. They look to get back on track next week against Softballs, Hard Bats at 6:30 pm.
Those Guys vs. Moe Joes Recap
What has become a recurring theme in Joliet, the wind played a factor in the game Monday night between Those Guys and Moe Joes. Those Guys could not get anything going in the first three innings on offense, but their defense managed to hold Moe Joes to only 7 runs to start the game. In the fourth inning Jon Estes was able to single in a run to put Those Guys on the board. The fifth inning was where the excitement truly began seeing Those Guys put up 8 runs on 9 hits. Dicky Barnes and Lenny Smith knocked in two runs a piece to lead the charge in the fifth inning. The hit parade started with Todd Runkle and the next six batters collected hits after him. That was not the only excitement in the game, after a great put out at the plate by Ben Knight, the shortstop for Moe Joes did not agree with the call and was ejected from the game for swearing at the umpire. He is also disqualified for the next game (per Joliet league rules) and left his team with only ten players to finish the game. The sixth inning Those Guys added another 8 runs to the tally. Mike Hoyt got the party started with a single followed by Lenny Smith’s second single of the night. Thomas Scott and Ben Knight each knocked in two runs and hit triples to right field. There were some great defensive plays by Those Guys, seeing Donnie Markus and Mike Hoyt gun down runners at second and third base. The game went to extra innings tied at 19 and Moe Joes was able to scratch across a run to win the game. Those Guys lost the game but had a hell of a lot of fun playing the game, Moe Joes is fun team to play and might be the new rivalry for Those Guys after The Creeps left the league. Those Guys play again next week at 8:30 against Father Tom & Altar boys.
Those Guys vs. Softballs, Hard Bats Recap
What a night for Those Guys!! They came off a tough loss and responded with a huge win over Softballs, Hard Bats. The first game of the season that did not see strong winds throughout the game, and Those Guys connected for 25 hits on the night! It started slow in the first inning with Those Guys scoring 5 runs on 4 hits. Dicky Barnes got it started with a double which plated two runs, Bryan Kouba then added a single, followed by Mike Hoyt and Todd Runkle adding triples each. Mike Hoyt added an additional two RBI’s and Todd Runkle added one RBI. The second inning Those Guys erupted for 14 runs on 15 hits! At one point Those Guys strung together 8 hits in a row! Softballs, Hard Bats did not go down without a fight though, after the flip flop rule, Softball, Hard Bats added 10 additional runs to keep their game alive. Those Guys added six more runs in the fifth inning to clinch the game and end it in five innings. Leading the way for the team was Bryan Kouba who collected five hits on the night an two RBI’s. Dicky Barnes added six RBI’s of his own, while Jason Novak added five RBI’s. The MVP for the night however went to Marko Skubiak. In his first game of the season and possibly his last game of the season, Marko collected four hits and two RBI’s! Next week Those Guys play Miles Construction at 9:30 on Field 5.
Father Tom & Altar Boys vs. Those Guys Recap
It is supposed to be summer softball, it sure feels like winter will never let up, even in the Spring!!! Father Tom & Altar Boys gave Those Guys all they could handle in their first match of the season. FTAB came out on top 26-14 in 7 innings. Those Guys didn’t seem on their game as much as they were last week. FTAB started out the game by dropping 10 runs in the first inning and it looked grim from the start. Those Guys however responded by putting up seven runs of their own. Donnie Markus got the hits started by smacking a double. Bill Moxley followed it up by ripping a single which would then score Juan Cisneros and Donnie Markus. Tom Scott, Jon Estes, Doug Schreiber, Lenny Smith and Mike Topper all added an RBI in the first inning. FTAB held Those Guys for the next two innings and just like the previous weeks, the wind was blowing straight out and that led to a record number of homerun-outs. Those Guys scored four more runs in the fifth inning and even strung together five hits in a row, Ben Knight, Bryan Kouba and Jon Estes added singles to their hit totals, Tom Scott added another double and Doug Schreiber cracked his first of two triples. When it was all said and done FTAB was just too much for Those Guys. The next game will be June 3rd at 9:30 against Softballs Hard Bats, on Field 5.
Moe Joes vs. Those Guys Recap
On another windy and cold night, Those Guys played one of the best overall games in the teams history. Thanks to the pitching performance of Dicky Barnes and Jason Novak, Those Guys were able to hold Moe Joes to just one run (given up by Dicky). The defense behind them was also stellar. The middle infielders (Bryan Kouba and Ben Knight) played lights out, not allowing a ball to get past them. The outfield caught every ball hit to them (not that there were many) and made the defense look like a well oiled machine. Now on to the hitting…The first inning was uneventful to say the least, Those Guys scored 3 runs to start the game starting off with a Ben Knight sacrifice fly ball. Jason Novak and Bill Moxley then followed that with doubles to tack on two more runs. The second inning was a little more exciting seeing Doug Schreiber and Todd Runkle launch 2 gopher balls over the fence for long outs! Tom Scott added one of his two doubles for the game as well as one of his four RBI’s. In the third inning Jon Estes got his second hit of the night and added one of his three RBI’s in his season debut, also going 3 for 3 on the night. Tom Scott, Donnie Markus, Bill Moxley and Bryan Kouba also contributed RBI’s to tack on 6 total runs in the third inning! The fourth inning was a wild one for Those Guys, seeing all 11 players tack on a hit and scoring a total of ten runs! Mike Hoyt added a double to his night after hitting a bullet over the fence in the third inning! Mike also added two RBI’s to his stats. Those Guys look to keep this momentum up next week as they play Father Tom & Altar Boys at 7:30 pm.
Those Guys vs. Teeball Allstars Recap
The first game of the year is always tough, getting used to new players, knocking off the rust from the previous year, etc. etc. Those Guys started the year off with a punch in the teeth. Teeball Allstars dropped 13 runs in the first inning on Those Guys, which woke them up quick. Ben Knight got the scoring started in the first inning with a double. Mike Topper was a fill in pitcher for the game and after the first inning nerves settled down and allowed only 2 runs over the next 3 innings. Meanwhile Those Guys started hitting more, Juan Cisneros and Bill Moxley had 3 hits on the night and scored 4 runs between them. Bryan Kouba, Ben Knight, Donnie Markus and Tom Scott added 2 hits a piece. The wind played a major factor in the game as well, 3 Those Guys hitters and 1 Teeball Allstars hitter cracked one over the fence for a very long out. The defense put on a show for both sides as well, Teeball Allstars turned a double play and Those Guys turned one of the wildest triple plays ever! That’s right a TRIPLE PLAY!!! It all started with Bryan Kouba making a tip toe catch and then stepping on second to get the 2 outs, he then fired the ball to Mike Topper who caught the runner on third sleeping and off the bag. A brief discussion was had by the umpires and it was determined that no one called time on the field leaving it as a live play. The triple play stood and it was one of the coolest highlights this team has ever seen! In the end Those Guys couldn’t score enough and ended up losing 23-14 in 6 innings due to time running out. They look to bounce back next week at 8:30 pm against Moe Joes.

T-Ball All-Stars vs. Those Guys recap
It was a steamy night in Joliet as Those Guys and the T-Ball All-Stars squared off for the third time this season. TBA got started dropping 5 runs in the first inning and it took Those Guys until the 3rd inning to get the scoring started. Steve Maver led off the inning with a triple, Donnie Markus then singled him in to start the scoring. Jason Novak, Bryan Kouba, Todd Runkle and Doug Schreiber all added hits in the inning as well. The 4th inning started off like the 3rd inning, newcomer Chris Blatti started the inning off with a triple and Steve Maver singled him in to start the scoring again. Steve Maver led all hitters going 4-5 with 3 singles and 1 triple. Chris Blatti would have hit for the cycle if his home-run had not counted as an out! The defense was on display last night as well. Chris Blatti had a routine fly ball hit his way, he dropped the ball but came up firing and got the runner out at third base on an absolute missile to Ben Knight. Those Guys held on in the 7th inning to secure a 11-10 victory and look to keep the momentum going into the end of the season. Next week is going to be tricky as most of the players will be at open house’s for their children’s school. Ben Knight is working to get the game changed so we will not have forfeit the game. Stay tuned to see what happens.
Those Guys vs. Miles Construction recap
The wind was blowing out on Monday night and the hits came from everyone on both teams. Miles Const. started out dropping 7 runs to start the game. It looked bleak for Those Guys, going down 1-2-3 in order to start the game. MC kept scoring in the 2nd and 3rd innings to increase the lead 12-0. Those Guys woke up in the 3rd scoring 7 runs on 8 hits. There were 4 players who tallied 3 hits each (Steve Maver, Donnie Markus, Ben Knight and Doug Schreiber). Donnie and Todd led the way with 3 RBI’s each. Those Guys held MC for a while and then had another explosive inning in the 6th to tie it 14-14. Todd Runkle hit an inside the park homerun to give Those Guys a boost. That is where the rally ended however and MC scored 4 in the 7th to win the game 18-14. Those Guys have had a rough year so far, but they keep battling it out with teams that are significantly higher in the standings. Next game is at 6:30 on 8/13.
